Update Typo3

I'm using Typo3 4.0.2 for several sites. I renamed the /typo3 directory for extra security.
Today I installed Typo3 4.0.5 and tried this for just one site by adjusting the symlink typo3_src and without renaming the /typo3 directory.
I have no clue what happend but this was the result:
- All other sites returned a blank page without source code
- Backend was still available
- some extensions were no longer installed
To solve this I had to use Typo3 4.0.5 for all sites with /typo3 as backend directory. I also had to remove all temp_CACHED_* files.
My questions:
- What happened???? Why can't I use different versions?
- How could one site mess with all other sites?
- How can I rename the /typo3 directory again?
I'm using Typo3 for about 6 months now. I always had the feeling Typo3 is the CMS I want to use in the futur. After today, I'm not so sure anymore. _________________ Tripple,
