I know that Typo3 already uses Imagemagick to size images, but can anyone tell me if it's possible to apply custom levels of sharpening to individual images on a site?

I've found that Typo3 uses temporary versions of image files - do these temp file names change ever? If not then I could use the command line to do sharpening but I've heard that Typo does change them "when it feels like it" - can anyone confirm/deny this?
